Part of the RTL Group, Broadcasting Centre Europe (BCE) is the European leader in media services, systems integration and software development for television, radio, telecommunications and IT.

In partnership with Intronics, BCE has equipped the new headquarters of the RTL group - “RTL City” in Luxembourg - with professional audio/video systems, aimed at the command & control (KVM) market.

One of the biggest challenges was to continue transmitting 24/7 during the move to the new headquarters, while at the same time improving the workflow of the growing number of workstations. In addition, new studios were added for TV, production, post-production, radio, multimedia and IT. All of the studios had to be integrated on a single platform.

An IP-based KVM solution
During a roadshow organized by Intronics, the professionals at BCE got to know the ins and outs of the KVM solutions. The decisive factors were especially the proof of concept, and the experience and expertise of Intronics in KVM, IP and broadcast infrastructure, in combination with the flexibility and development possibilities of Intronics’ KVM supplier, Adder Technology. Taking into account the wishes of RTL, BCE found the solution it was looking for with Intronics. In this, signal transport is on an IP network for maximum flexibility. This was the most obvious choice for BCE, given its wish to be the first in the world to move to an IP broadcast production infrastructure.

Pioneer
“At BCE, we decided at an early stage to design all the infrastructure in our broadcast centre over IP,” explains Franz Voss, Project Engineer at Broadcasting Centre Europe. “That makes us a pioneer in this field. So the decision to also implement the KVM infrastructure over IP was a quick one. We were looking for a high-quality, user-friendly and resilient solution that we could implement in small steps and that would grow in line with our wishes in the future. Intronics, in collaboration with Adder, has shown a very high level of expertise and professionalism throughout the project. It was nice working with them and it delivered a great result.”

Pride in a flexible KVM system
Yves van Hullebusch and Thomas Rouw, Project Account Managers for pro AV and KVM at Intronics add: “We entered into the partnership with BCE very openly and enthusiastically. Throughout the project, the expertise and knowledge demonstrated by BCE and our contact Franz Voss were of the highest quality. By co-operating closely, we have provided the most flexible KVM system in a demanding installation. So we are proud that BCE has chosen to collaborate with Intronics.”
